Presenting the latest opus from Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jr.), a legend to Detroit's underground music scene.
Known for his capability of infusing the city's renowned culture of soul (Motown, etc) with a beat relevant to a modern day audience, has made him highly reputable amongst his peers. His productions are devastatingly groovy, and he continues to succeed his reputation with his latest LP, simply entitled " Moodymann ". Included are some funky gems which flirt with house and techno ( " No" as well as " Sunday Hotel" are John Lee Hooker samples).
Consumed in an ambiance of soul and funk, We admire how the artist incorporates electronic influence with classic groove. A number of musicians were invited to collaborate on the project, notably Andrès, on "Lyk U Use 2 (feat. Andrès)", who will be releasing his own album this year on Mahogany Music. We'll revisit then!
Finally, some samples, with well-rounded basses and powerful rhodes acoustics dosed by a deep, gravelly vocals which tie in the album. We love " Come to Me", as well as "Hold it Down".
As a bonus, we savor this piece from 1997, a real house jam which celebrates Gil Scott-Heron. It's Amerika. As well we listen in on the sublime title " Shades of Jae" released in 2004 on the album "Black Mahogani". And even further, a 1 hour 30 minute treat with him at the Red Bull Music Academy in 2010.
